Content with Content

Publication

Brief
To document intellectual and emotional engagement as a design student studying abroad in Italy, developing an idea that reveals something about the experience beyond a literal reporting of events.
Outcome
Content with content is a publication about the process of documenting experiences, overdependency on phones and being constantly connected to the online sphere- whether that be navigating a foreign country through Google Maps, keeping in touch with friends on social media or researching the must-go-to spots in each city.

Traveling has become a spectacle in itself, where monuments seemingly exist solely to be photographed and uploaded to social media. Even if not uploaded and shared, the accessibility and ease of a phone being able to take an unlimited number of photos means that we are constantly seeking to ‘capture the moment’. But are we spending too much time concerned with capturing the moment that we forget to live in it?

What happens when I lose my phone? My hard drive corrupts? Will my memory fade with the loss of the images to remember them by?
